IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT APPLYING TO SEMESTER AT SEA:

Semester at Sea is NOT an approved Pace University study abroad Partner. If students want to go regardless, because the cost of a Semester at Sea study abroad program is more expensive than a semester at Pace, students cannot apply Pace institutional aid to their Semester at Sea program.

However, we recognize that some Pace students want to participate on a Semester at Sea program for a semester abroad. For those applying to Semester at Sea, please note the following:
  • Students must apply to study abroad via Pace Education Abroad, and meet the minimum requirements to study abroad at Pace:
    • 2.5 GPA
    • completion of their first year at Pace (by the start of the study abroad program)
    • a clear disciplinary record
    • be 18 years of age prior to the program start date
    • be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Students will be assessed the $100 Study Abroad Fee, payable to Pace
  • Students will register at Pace for the semester abroad under a “SAN” semester abroad placeholder – with no tuition attached
  • Students will not receive a Pace tuition bill for the semester
  • Students will liaise directly with Semester at Sea representatives for all program planning, meet all required application requirements and deadlines stated by Semester at Sea, apply for any required visas, and pay Semester at Sea all fees directly.
  • Students cannot apply Pace institutional aid to their Semester at Sea program. However, students' federal aid may be applied towards the cost of the program (inquire directly with Semester at Sea).
  • Students must complete Course Equivalency Forms before departure for all courses to be taken during Semester at Sea, in order to receive Pace academic credits.
  • To see courses that were previously approved by Pace Academic Chairs for Pace students who went on Semester at Sea, click here: Semester at Sea Pre-Approved Course List (Updated 12.18.23).pdf

ENSURE YOU ENROLL IN ENOUGH CREDITS DURING YOUR SEMESTER ABROAD!!
A minimum of 12 U.S. credits is required during a semester abroad to maintain full-time status, defined as being enrolled in 12-18 U.S. credits per semester. However, we STRONGLY recommend that you take the equivalent of 15 U.S. credits abroad because:

  1. Any unforeseen changes to your schedule abroad could reduce your course load below 12 U.S. credits (e.g., canceled classes or a change in your class choices)
  2. Pace students must have full-time status to receive financial aid. If you are eligible for financial aid but enroll in fewer than 12 U.S. credits, you will lose your financial aid. Taking 15 U.S. credits abroad acts as a cushion so you’re not at risk of losing financial aid in case of any unforeseen changes.
